Claude Motion is Anthropic's animation beta inside Claude. It launched on 8 October 2026 and, as of 10 Oct 2026, is on Team and Enterprise plans only. Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images, then exports an MP4, and Anthropic says no video generation model is involved. Higgsfield Katana was announced the same evening: Higgsfield's changelog calls it a skill for Claude, and its launch post says "powered by Claude Motion". Katana reaches Claude through the Higgsfield MCP connector, and Higgsfield's own pages disagree on whether that connector is free. The details are below.

I have not used either product. Everything below comes from Anthropic's and Higgsfield's own pages, listed at the end, and plan and price lines are dated as of 10 Oct 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Claude Motion works by writing code: Claude animates your text, charts, shapes and images, and you export an MP4. Anthropic says no video model is involved.
  • As of 10 Oct 2026, Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans only, and Anthropic's pricing page lists it as "No" for Free, Pro and Max. Claude Dashboards is on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise.
  • As of 10 Oct 2026, Higgsfield's pages disagree on whether the Higgsfield MCP is free. One page says you can connect "for free"; the help centre says a paid subscription is required and every generation deducts credits.
  • As of 10 Oct 2026, whether Higgsfield Katana needs a Claude Team plan is unknown. Higgsfield says "powered by Claude Motion" and states no Claude plan requirement.
  • Higgsfield's own pages describe Katana three ways, and Anthropic has not published Motion's resolution, frame rate or maximum length.

What launched on 8 October 2026

On 8 October 2026 at 19:01 UTC, Anthropic posted that Claude Dashboards and Claude Motion were in beta. Ninety-two minutes later, Higgsfield announced Katana, "powered by Claude Motion".

Anthropic's launch article covers Claude Motion and Claude Dashboards, both in beta. Reuters described Motion as letting users "create editable animations and export them as video files". Three products, two owners:

  • Claude Motion, from Anthropic. Claude turns a prompt, plus any report, data or images you attach, into a short animation.
  • Claude Dashboards, from Anthropic. You ask a question in plain language and Claude builds charts from your data.
  • Higgsfield Katana, from Higgsfield, announced as "powered by Claude Motion". The post adds: "Available now in Claude via Higgsfield MCP."

What Claude Motion is

Anthropic says Claude "writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes, and images, so you can change any word, number, or timing." It adds: "It doesn't use a video generation model, so there's no generated footage and no AI-generated people."

Each animation is an Artifact made from the Motion template, and per the Help Center it "plays like a short video". Anthropic's examples use your own material, like a quarterly report turned into a "30-second explainer for an all-hands". The launch article says: "Claude Motion is built for explaining your own work." It is a beta, and Anthropic's beta page warns that performance and reliability can vary.

Motion is for explaining your own material in motion. Anthropic says it makes no footage and no AI-generated people.

Two other things are easy to confuse with it. Motion, a separate company, posted on 9 October: "We got Motion working in Claude before Claude Motion existed." And people were already posting animations that Claude Opus 5.5 had written as code from about 24 September, as in this thread.

I look at what this means for motion designers in a separate post, will AI replace motion designers.

Which Claude plans get Claude Motion

As of 10 Oct 2026, Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans only. Anthropic's pricing page lists it as "No" for Free, Pro and Max. On Team it is on by default. On Enterprise an Owner has to turn it on, per the admin guide.

So is Claude Motion available on Pro or Max? No, as of 10 Oct 2026. Two replies on X asked for it on Max: "any chance to have this on the Max Plan?" from @princedoesai and "why is motion not in max already?" from @CristiVlad25. I found no statement from Anthropic on whether that will change.

I found no per-animation price. Per the Help Center, Motion counts against your normal usage limits, and "Longer or more complex animations use more of your limit than a typical message."

The only price you can work out is the seat. As of 10 Oct 2026, the pricing page lists a Team Standard seat at $20 a month billed annually, or $25 billed monthly, for teams of 2 to 150. By my arithmetic, the cheapest Team route is about $40 to $50 a month for two seats. That assumes the Standard seat includes Motion. The page describes the seat as "All Claude features" and lists Motion among the Team features, but does not name Motion for the Standard seat. I did not check Enterprise seat minimums.

How to make and export your first animation

Per the Help Center, start one from any chat, or from Output then Motion in the message box. The launch article adds, in an image caption, that typing /motion brings up the Motion option. Edit by asking, for example "Change the Q3 number to 18%", or in the editor. You can change one detail "and the rest stays as it was". To download, click Export and choose MP4. Animations start private to you.

For finishing, Anthropic points you to the MP4 export or to Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI or Runway, with Canva and Captions coming soon. Neither company says whether the Higgsfield entry is the same thing as Katana.

For Adobe, I found only trade-press reports of a Send to Adobe button, including The Neuron's, and no Adobe-hosted announcement.

What Claude Dashboards adds

Claude Dashboards (beta) launched next to Motion. As of 10 Oct 2026, it is in beta on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, and off by default on Enterprise, per its Help Center article. You connect a data warehouse (Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks or Snowflake) or another connected app, and ask a question in plain language. Claude "writes a SQL query for each chart and runs it against your data source", and each chart shows its query. The Neuron states the test: whether the numbers "can be checked and the animation can be corrected without starting over."

What Higgsfield Katana is

Higgsfield is an AI image and video company, founded in 2023. Katana is a Higgsfield skill for Claude that makes video edits in Aura Farming, Motion or Clipping styles, per its changelog. The launch post calls it "Our most powerful AI video editing tool, inside Claude" and says you can "Upload a reference and create editable motion graphics, product launch videos, or aura-farming edits."

Per the changelog, an edit takes up to 5 reference images, and a community preset is shared with a 3 to 30 second motion video and up to 40 images. Once the connector is set up, you type /katana in Claude. Presets include an "Aura Farming" style, which is slang for looking cool.

Higgsfield's own pages do not agree on what Katana is:

  • The launch post on X says it is "powered by Claude Motion".
  • The changelog calls it a "Higgsfield skill for Claude" that "runs on Higgsfield models through MCP".
  • The Katana page credits Claude Motion and Higgsfield MCP in its header, but its page description reads "Aura-farming machine by Higgsfield & Claude Opus 5.5."

Does Higgsfield Katana run on Claude Motion?

Higgsfield says so in its launch post, but I found no page that documents how. All three descriptions can be true at once, or they can describe three different setups, so I will not guess at the plumbing.

Keep two other Higgsfield products apart from Katana. Its changelog lists an After Effects plugin that works in Claude via MCP, where "the agent works directly with compositions, layers, keyframes, effects, and scripts" (13 July 2026). It also lists AI Motion Designer, an agent that connects Higgsfield to After Effects through GPT, whose output it calls "native AE elements, editable as usual" (11 September 2026). Neither entry mentions Katana.

How to connect Higgsfield MCP to Claude

MCP is "an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems", per the MCP docs. Higgsfield's connector is a remote MCP server that you add to Claude as a custom connector. The steps, per Higgsfield's help centre:

  • In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom connector.
  • Name it Higgsfield and set the URL to https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp.
  • Authorise with your Higgsfield account. It uses OAuth and, Higgsfield says, needs no API credentials.
  • Type /katana in a Claude chat, or pick a preset on the Katana page.
  • A shortcut for the first two steps: the "Install Higgsfield in Claude" button on the Katana page opens Claude's add-custom-connector dialog with the name and URL filled in.

Do you need a Claude Team plan for the connector?

The connector does not. As of 10 Oct 2026, custom connectors work on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, and Free is limited to one, per Anthropic's connector guide. Whether Katana needs Claude Motion, and so a Team or Enterprise plan, is undocumented.

Is Higgsfield MCP free, and what does it cost?

Higgsfield's pages do not agree, and I would plan on a paid plan plus credits, because the help centre and the pricing page state conditions and the video generator page does not. I have not run the connector, and Higgsfield does not say how its pages fit together. As of 10 Oct 2026, this is what each one says:

  • The Claude AI video generator page says in its page description: "Connect Claude to Higgsfield with MCP for free".
  • The help centre says "An active paid subscription is required" and "Every generation through a connected agent deducts credits, regardless of your plan."
  • The pricing page says "Unlimited models and Free Generations on plans are accessible only via higgsfield.ai and are not accessible on MCP/CLI, Canvas or Supercomputer."

What Higgsfield plans and credits cost, and the missing spend cap

As of 10 Oct 2026, the pricing page lists Starter at $19 a month for 270 credits, Plus at $47 for 1,200 and Ultra at $99 for 3,000, all billed annually, with promotions showing. Team is listed "From $65" per seat per month, with up to 30% off for annual billing. Katana's own price per edit is not published.

The connector has no built-in spending cap. The help centre says "There's no native credit cap", and that telling the agent a limit in chat is "a prompt-level instruction, not a hard limit." A hard limit has to be enforced outside the chat. Controls like that are part of my cost, evals and production safety work.

What to check before you add a custom connector

Anthropic's connector guide treats this as a trust decision. Custom connectors "allow you to connect Claude to services that haven't been verified by Anthropic", and "Malicious MCP servers may include hidden instructions that try to make Claude perform unintended actions." Claude connects to the server from Anthropic's cloud infrastructure, per the same guide.

As of 10 Oct 2026, on Team plans only Owners and Primary Owners can add one. Anthropic says to click "Allow always" only for a server and tool you trust to run unsupervised. I would skip it for anything that spends credits.

What nobody has documented yet

Two numbers on Higgsfield's separate Claude video generator page, up to 15 seconds per clip and up to 4K, describe its generated video. They are not Motion or Katana specs.

As of 10 Oct 2026, I could not find these in any Anthropic or Higgsfield page:

  • Motion's resolution, frame rate, maximum length, audio support, export formats beyond MP4 and per-animation usage cost.
  • What Motion renders with, whether you can export its code, and whether it is available through the API.
  • Whether Katana needs the same Claude plan as Motion, what an edit costs in credits, and its output length, resolution and export formats.
  • What "editable" means for Katana output: Motion code in Claude, a downloadable project, or only something you can re-prompt.
  • Any independent hands-on test of Katana. I found promo posts from Higgsfield's accounts and staff and a few individual creator posts, and no review that I could confirm was free of ties to Higgsfield.

If you are on Pro or Max: Claude Code with Remotion

Claude Motion is out of reach on Free, Pro and Max as of 10 Oct 2026, so some people build animations themselves. Since about 24 September, people have posted animations that Claude Opus 5.5 wrote as code, and one thread of examples includes a three-minute video built in Remotion. On 9 October, @Yarad_ai summarised Anthropic's Motion guide in Persian and wrote that Opus 5.5 in Claude Code can build the same kind of coded animation with HyperFrames.

Remotion's site describes the tool as a way to "Create videos and motion graphics with React" and pitches "Use coding agents, render in bulk and build apps." As of 10 Oct 2026 it is free for individuals and companies of up to 3 people, and companies of 4 or more need a paid licence.

I found no comparison of this route with Claude Motion. eesel AI, a vendor blog that reviewed Motion from Anthropic's pages without long-term use, writes: "No Anthropic source says Motion is built on Remotion, so I wouldn't assume it." Until someone tests the two side by side, I would treat them as separate routes.

What to watch next

Two things would change this picture: published specs from Anthropic or Higgsfield, and independent test results from someone with no stake in either. The sources below are the pages to re-check.

Frequently asked questions

What is Claude Motion?

Claude Motion is an Anthropic tool, in beta since 8 Oct 2026, that turns a prompt into a short animation. Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images, and you export an MP4; Anthropic says no video model is involved. As of 10 Oct 2026 it is on Team and Enterprise plans only.

Is Claude Motion available on Pro or Max?

No, as of 10 Oct 2026. Anthropic's pricing page lists Claude Motion as "No" for Free, Pro and Max, and as available on Team and Enterprise. I found no Anthropic statement on whether that will change. People who want something similar have posted animations that Claude Opus 5.5 wrote as code, including a video built in Remotion; I found no comparison with the official tool.

How much does Claude Motion cost?

Anthropic has published no per-animation price. As of 10 Oct 2026, Motion counts against your plan's usage limits, and longer or more complex animations use more of the limit. The only price you can work out is the seat: a Team Standard seat is $20 a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, for teams of 2 to 150, so two seats come to about $40 to $50 a month by my arithmetic, if the Standard seat includes Motion.

Does Claude Motion generate AI video?

No. Anthropic says no video generation model is involved, so there is no generated footage and no AI-generated people. Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images. I compare that with video generators in will AI replace motion designers.

Can Claude create videos?

Claude can write code that animates your own text, charts, shapes and images and export an MP4, through Claude Motion on Team and Enterprise plans as of 10 Oct 2026. Through the Higgsfield connector it can also use Higgsfield's video models. Higgsfield's video generator page says those give up to 15 seconds per clip and up to 4K, and its help centre says they spend credits.

What is Higgsfield Katana?

Per Higgsfield's changelog, Katana is a Higgsfield skill for Claude that makes video edits in Aura Farming, Motion or Clipping styles from a reference. You add it through the Higgsfield MCP connector and type /katana in Claude. Higgsfield's launch post says it is "powered by Claude Motion" and its changelog says it "runs on Higgsfield models through MCP"; Higgsfield has not explained how the two fit.

How do I connect Higgsfield MCP to Claude?

In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom connector. Name it Higgsfield, set the URL to https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp and authorise with your Higgsfield account; Higgsfield says it uses OAuth and needs no API credentials. The Katana page also has an "Install Higgsfield in Claude" button that opens the add-connector dialog. Then type /katana in a Claude chat.

Do you have to pay for Higgsfield MCP?

As of 10 Oct 2026, Higgsfield's pages disagree. A Claude video generator page says you can connect Claude to Higgsfield with MCP "for free". The help centre says "An active paid subscription is required" and that every generation through a connected agent deducts credits. The pricing page says Unlimited models and Free Generations are not accessible on MCP. I would plan on a paid plan plus credits, and I have not run the connector.

Do I need a Claude Team plan to use Higgsfield Katana?

Unknown. Higgsfield says Katana is "powered by Claude Motion", and Motion is Team and Enterprise only as of 10 Oct 2026, but custom connectors work on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans and Higgsfield states no Claude plan requirement. In one walkthrough, a creator who lists Higgsfield among their partner programmes says only "I'm on a paid Claude plan" and does not name the plan. On a Team plan, only Owners can add the connector.

Is Claude Motion the same as Motion for Claude?

No. Claude Motion is Anthropic's animation tool inside Claude. Motion, a separate company, says it had its own Motion working in Claude before Claude Motion existed. People were also posting animations that Opus 5.5 had written as code from about 24 September, as in this thread.
